Snow-Flake Airport Terminal

Architecture design firm MAD, founded by Chinese Architect Ma Yansong imagined the Harbin Airport, China, in the shape of a snow-flake for its third terminal. The designers chose this exact shape because of the fact that Harbin has earned the title ‘Ice City’ in the winters. Excluding its unique shape, the designers have also included garden areas where the passengers may rest to their pleasure. The garden will connect different levels of Harbin Airport Terminal and is designed in a manner so as to cut down the overall time it takes travellers to reach their departure gates. The terminal will also increase the capacity of the airport serving. The new terminal is expected to serve 43 million passengers on 320,000 outgoing flights per year. High-speed rail links, subway lines and airport buses are all planned to encourage the citizens to make use of flights rather than drive.
